Yahoo has announced that its global live stream of yesterday’s NFL game, which saw the Jacksonville Jaguars defeat the Buffalo Bills, drew in 15.2 million viewers total.

While the company said that it delivered 33.6 million streams overall in 185 countries, it is worth noting that Yahoo was auto-playing the stream to anyone who visited its homepage.

Viewers streamed more than 460 million total minutes of the game, with 33 per cent coming from outside of the US, according to Yahoo.

Adam Cahan, senior vice president of product and engineering at Yahoo, said: “It’s been a great opportunity to partner with the NFL and deliver a truly exceptional global live streaming experience for our users. We’re seeing a dramatic shift in the industry as audiences’ primary video watching moves away from TV. We were thrilled to join the NFL in setting a new standard for sports programming for our users and advertisers.”

More than 30 brands, including American Express, KFC, and Toyota, advertised during the livestream.
