Mantandina, an independent food brand centred around the very best Andean food ingredients, with a particular focus on unique Peruvian delicacies, has unveiled its new branding, created by IC Design.

The design was inspired by traditional Peruvian blankets.

The agency was commissioned to create the brand identity and website for Mantandina, initially for retail but for potential future use as a café brand too.

The name ‘mantandina’ literally translates as ‘blanket from the Andes’, which inspired IC Design to create an M icon made up of threads that weave together with a small cross stitch for added detail.

Rowana Batuwitage, design director of IC Design, said: “The new identity needed to reflects the owner’s – and the products’ – Peruvian heritage. As well as representing the blankets themselves, the icon also represents the products that are sold; raw ingredients that are combined together to create something very special. The colour scheme is deep and rich with a base of coffee colours to tie it together, echoing Peruvian mantas and landscapes. This is also followed through onto the typography treatment.

“The website is clean and uncluttered and very easy to navigate with pared down content – focusing on photography that reinforces the provenance of the products.”

IC Design is based in London and works with clients including Fortnum & Mason, Microsoft and Orchid.
