London.gov.uk beta site demonstrates growing “Open Source mentality” among public sector organisations
The beta version of London.gov.uk, the website serving the Mayor of London and the Greater London Assembly (GLA), signals a “growing Open Source mentality” within government organisations, according to the site’s developers.
Released to the public two weeks ago, the new website aims to help Londoners understand the work carried out by City Hall, while acting as the first point of contact for members of the public looking to connect with the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. Developed by digital agency, CTI Digital, the new Drupal platform is available as a public beta for everyone to browse and provide vital feedback.
CTI Digital’s Drupal director Paul Johnson said: “This project signifies further and growing commitment to Drupal. The GLA has shown visionary leadership on this and have approved CTI Digital to release features developed for London.gov.uk to the open source community. As several other boroughs in London use Drupal this could benefit them directly. The adoption of an open source mentality is growing in government and this can only help to accelerate the speed of innovation.”
Nick Rhind, chief executive officer at CTI Digital, said: “Our agile delivery process has allowed us to test and improve the website continually throughout development. Now we are in the public beta we can ensure that the final design fully accommodates the needs of both Londoners and City Hall. Since embarking on the development of the london.gov.uk website, the Greater London Authority has commissioned us to work on several additional projects and we look forward to continuing to support the organisation beyond the launch of its new website.’
