Google has introduced a free, ad-supported version of its Google Play Music service in the US.

The announcement comes just a week before Apple rolls out its own music streaming platform.

Google Play Music charges users $9.99 per month for access to its ad-free service.

A company blog post announcing the free addition said: “We hope you’ll enjoy it so much that you’ll consider subscribing to Google Play Music to play without ads, take your music offline, create your own playlists, and listen to any of the 30 million songs in our library on any device and as much as you’d like.”

The new version is launching first in the US and is already available on the web. It will soon be available on Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS.
