Apple is remaining tight-lipped following the latest spin of the iphone rumour mill which suggests that the technology firm will ditch the physical home button from the latest iteration of its flagship handset.

Reports in DigiTimes suggest that Apple is devising a new form of integrated fingerprint sensor that would eliminate the need for a push button, enabling the design to be streamlined to a solely touchscreen input.

The present generation iPhone makes use of a menu button which also acts as a fingerprint scanner but by migrating the scanner to the touchscreen itself Apple believe they can bypass the button, with the added advantage of eliminating wasted space on a bezel for a full size edge-to-edge screen.

Another technological solution to this quandary could see Apple introduce its Force Touch technology to the next iPhone, allowing it to achieve home button functionality by having users apply pressure to a specific part of the screen.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 6S in September.
