Morning all, here’s a glimpse at all the media and marketing news you should know today.

1. Netflix’s stocks soared on the news that the company is seeking a China expansion, according to USA Today. Shares of the video streaming service rose by $25.51, or 4.4 per cent, to $612.21.

2. Apple has snapped up Coherent Navigation, a company boasting pin-point accurate GPS capabilities. MacRumours reports that the company can provide GPS data accurate to within centimetres.

3. Nike has come under fire for offering a 30 per cent discount to police officers as part of Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on 13 May. The criticism emerged as the US continues to face tensions over shootings involving police officers.

4. The New York Times has (perhaps) unmasked the elusive creator of Bitcoin. An investigatory piece named a “reclusive American man of Hungarian descent named Nick Szabo” as the developer behind the digital currency.

5. TechCrunch reports that social marketing company Brand Networks has acquired social media advertising company Shift. The deal cost the firm $50m in cash-and-stock.

6. P&G, the US’ largest advertiser, has put its North American media business in review. Adweek reports that the firm looks to save $500m annually by slashing fees, production costs and the number of agencies it works with.

7. Microsoft has denied reports that those who pirated subsequent versions of its operating system will receive a free upgrade to Windows 10. Business Insider reports that pirates will receive in-system messages requesting they upgrade to the latest version - but that it will cost them.

8. Apple fans have received their look at Michael Fassbender’s portrayal of Steve Jobs. Directed by Danny Boyle, the piece is being touted as a look at Jobs’ ongoing legacy whilst attempting to avoid being overly sycophantic.
