Instagram joins Apple Watch bandwagon with custom app

Instagram has become the latest big name app to join the Apple Watch fold with the release of a custom app designed exclusively for use on the wearable tech.

The launch forced Instagram to reassess how the image sharing platform could work on a shrunken display.

App designer Ian Silber commented: “Developing for the Watch is definitely fun but they kept it pretty scoped and limited. That’s smart because it helps shape the types of apps that come out in version one. You don’t want an app with a ton of features on your watch; you want one screen that tells you the most important information.”

In excess of 1m Apple Watches have already been sold ahead of the devices launch on 24 April.
