Uber has released statistics on UberPool, its carlpooling service, which has attracted millions of riders in less than a year.

The service was launched in San Francisco last August and has since become available in New York, Paris, Los Angeles, and Austin.

UberPool allows riders to consolidate their trips with others taking a similar route, ultimately paying up to 50 per cent less.

“We’ve seen millions of UberPool trips, and with thousands of users taking Pool trips during commute hours more than five times in a week,” the report read. “Pool is becoming a true commuting option for many people. In fact, in San Francisco, match rates from the Marina to the Financial District are over 90% during commuting hours.”

The environment also benefits from the service. In San Francisco alone, 13,500 gallons of gasoline have been saved since last August. That equates to a savings of about 8.91 kg of atmospheric CO2 emissions per gallon.

Regardless of the program’s success, it has been a rough legal year for Uber. The ride-sharing app is currently fighting bans and sanctions in multiple European nations.
