Leading actor Ewan McGregor is to become the new face of BT with the star fronting the communications firm’s new ‘Behind the Scenes’ campaign, a parody of the advertising process.

Hitting screens from tonight during Channel 4’s ‘Gogglebox’ the AMV BBDO devised campaign sees McGregor onscreen alongside BT Sport Ambassadors and footballers Robin Van Persie and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, covering all aspects of production from casting, rehearsals, pre-production, post-production and voice over recordings.

Famous faces will be roped in from the worlds of acting, celebrity and sport over the coming months to satirise the process alongside recurring characters such as “BT Clients”, “The Director” and “The Ad Agency Creative”.

To kick things off BT will air ‘Big Stunt’ in which a Harley Davidson smashes through a set wall to a background of pyrotechnics with McGregor questioning the relevancy of such artistry.

David James, BT consumer marketing director, said: “BT is very excited to be launching its new marketing campaign. It follows our previous hugely popular campaigns, including Adam and Jane’s love story as well as the flatmates. The public got to know these characters and took them into their hearts. We are confident that they will do the same with our new host of intriguing characters.”

A national outdoor advertising campaign will support the TV push through April with associated social media activity on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
