Etihad Airways and Jet Airways are to be the official airline partners and principle sponsors of the Mumbai Indians during the 2015 Twenty20 tournament.

Both firms made the announcement just before the Mumbai Indians’ first match against the Kolkata Knight Riders in West Bengal, which kicks off tomorrow (8 April).

The agreement marks the second season in which the airlines have partnered with the club, which is followed by millions of fans across the world.

Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways chief commercial officer, said: “The Pepsi IPL is recognised as one of the most exciting competitions in world sport, with the Mumbai Indians its biggest team, so it’s great news for Etihad Airways to be named as the team’s joint airline partner and principle sponsor alongside our friends at Jet Airways.

Raj Sivakumar, Jet Airways chief commercial officer, added: “The Mumbai Indians partnership is without question one of our most exciting sponsorship properties… the brand exposure that both airlines will gain throughout the next two months of the IPL will be phenomenal.”

As part of the deal, the Etihad Airways logo will feature on the back of shirts at home games, whereas the Jet Airways logo will be used for away matches.
