Apple has ordered six million Apple Watches from its Asian based manufacturers, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The publication cited sources within the company claiming that three million Apple Watch Sport units will be produced, with a higher end model accounting for a third of the products upon launch in April.

Orders for the high end $5,000 18K gold Apple Watch will remain minimal according to the source. At the other end of the scale, the Apple Watch Sport has been ranged at a price of $349 upon launch.

Following the smartwatch's launch, Apple expects to produce a million units per month, to keep up with consumer demand.

Earlier today (Tuesday 17 February) it emerged that Apple's design chief Jony Ive, and senior vice president of retail and online stores Angela Ahrendts, were reshuffling the brand's store layout to best display the Apple Watch for when it hits shelves soon.
