Marriott International has offered to put up a jilted Canadian man and his travelling companion in separate rooms, following publicity surrounding their unlikely story.

Jordan Axan had been fearful of a lonely round the world trip after his partner pulled out but struck lucky after finding a woman with the same name as his ex to stand-in.

The unconventional set up arose after airlines refused a request to change the booking details for Elizabeth Gallagher, meaning the expensive foray would have gone to waste unless a passport double could be found.

After posting a request for willing volunteers Axani struck lucky however when one Elizabeth Gallagher stepped forward to accept the offer of a free holiday.

Commenting on the nature of the unexpected holiday the new Gallagher, who already has a boyfriend, said: “It definitely did seem a little bit creepy at the beginning but now that I talked to him it's less creepy and more awesome.

“This is totally sort of like as friends. I have a pretty serious boyfriend. We've been together for a while. We're planning on buying a house and we have a puppy, so yeah I'm not really looking for anything at all."

The less than fulsome commitment hasn’t totally convinced her boyfriend but Gallagher added: “He understands that I've always wanted to travel so while he's not happy I'm taking off for nearly a month at Christmas with a random guy he's smiling through it.”

Axani, who insists the trip is ‘strictly platonic’ said that the tickets were worth up to $6,200 and their adventure would be documented online.
