An unusual twist on your regular ad campaign, this video from tourism for Thailand has already notched up more than one million views since being posted last week.

It turned out the clip, which begins with a traveller proclaiming how he hates the country, after losing his bag and experiencing a few other unlucky scenarios, was produced by Thailand’s tourism authority.

Viewers are taken in by the seemingly miserable curcumstances of the protagonoist who has lost his bag and passport whilst at a beach party, but are then given a hands-on view of the helpfulness and hospitality the country is known for - an an attempt at reverse psychology to attract tourists.

It’s an interesting approach to attracting visitors, moving completely way from a traditionally structured TV ad. They may need to be a bit caerful with their labelling of this kind of content in future so people are aware it is paid-for, but nevertheless it’s an eye-catching bit of content.
