Amazon’s insatiable diversification push shows no sign of abating with the release of its Fire TV stick, a $39 dongle which can stream online media direct to your television and runs over 600 Fire optimised apps and games.

A clear challenger to Google Chromecast and the Roku Streaming Stick the device follows hot on the heels of the retailers Fire TV set top box, albeit packing less power making it less suited to gaming.

Plugging directly into an HDMI port the attachment comes with its own remote control, offering those already immersed in the Amazon ecosystem to load content snappily and access Amazon phone or tablet content on the big screen.

Consumers will be able to get their hands on the stick from 19 November.
