Customers vent as Sainsbury’s halves Nectar points to one per pound spent
Sainsbury’s announced today (14 October) that from 11 April customers using Nectar will receive half the number of points, earning one point for every pound they spend in-store or online instead of two.
The supermarket has also decided to stop rewarding customers with a Nectar point for every bag they reuse.
However, they will still get a point per litre of fuel.
The news broke to customers via an email in which the retailer claimed there would be “new opportunities to boost your balance faster and more value when you spend your points”.
Some of these “opportunities” include bonus events such as ‘Swipe to Win’, 10xpoints on fuel as well as increasing the number of categories to its Christmas ‘Double Up’ offer.
Customers remained unconvinced, with many taking to Twitter to vent frustration over the new proposition.
So @sainsburys are halving the @nectar points earnt per spend but offering more double up events... how is this better?

Just had a jolly letter from @sainsburys informing me that they are SLASHING the number of @nectar points from next yr & trying to spin it! — Steve Johnson (@Binky_2301) October 14, 2014
Used Sainsbury's Nectar points for years now & appreciated them at Christmas to save a bit. Won't bother now. Not much loyalty to customers

Has the @sainsburys been given a gagging order on nectar questions/comments. They are certainly ignoring them. @BBCWatchdog — Matthew Jackson (@arts_matt) October 14, 2014
Thanks @sainsburys for halving the nectar points we get. It makes the new @waitrose at the end of my road an even more appealing prospect!

So Sainsbury's is halving the @nectar points we earn? They really don't give a shit about customers do they? http://t.co/qAGdA6NsNz — Darren Jamieson (@MisterDaz) October 14, 2014
