The BBC has put its £5m media account, currently handled by MEC Manchester, up for review, with the process to take place “in the coming months”.

The account has been held by MEC Manchester for two years, prior to which it was held jointly by PHD and MPG Media Contacts.

Worth between £5m and £6m, it was the first move by the BBC to an agency outside London, as the corporation itself moved to MediaCityUK.

In a statement, the BBC confirmed to The Drum: “The BBC is starting to have conversations with the industry to inform the formal procurement process for our media planning and buying services, which will begin in the coming months.”

The successful agency from the pitch will be expected to work across branded campaigns – such as the recent ‘God only Knows’ promotion for BBC Music - as well as campaigns for TV Licensing.
