Delivery company TNT Post has rebranded under the name Whistl and announced that its postmen are set to begin delivering parcels on electric unicycles.

Staff are currently being trained in the use of the AirWheel, which has a top speed of 12mph and a 20-mile range, and is legally allowed to be used on pavements and pedestrian routes.

The trail will begin in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool with 100 postmen using the technology. If successful it will be implemented nationwide.

Commenting on the rebrand, chief executive Nick Wells said: “We have reached another significant milestone in our history with the name change to Whistl. The new brand reflects the team work culture of our business, our positive can-do attitude and our aim to do the right thing for our colleagues, customers and the communities in which we work."

TNT Post said it aims to up its employees from 3,000 to 20,000 by 2019.

Last month the company was banned by the Advertising Standards Authority from sending out leaflets that claimed its service was better than the Royal Mail.
