British car manufacturer Vauxhall earlier this week announced its intention to revive the Viva range with a teaser image of the newly-imagined ‘city car’.

The teaser image was released earlier this week

The four-door hatchback will look very little like its predecessor when it is launched in summer 2015, however it will serve as Vauxhall’s budget flagship with a starting price of £7,000.

In the teaser image, many of the car’s features have been obscured but the Viva has been described as boxy by many commentators. The Viva has rebranded as an inexpensive city car, designed to capture young professionals in the market on a budget.

The Viva will replace the current Agila range, which is priced just under £9,000, with Vauxhall instead, deciding to awaken the Viva from its 35-year slumber.

European partner brand Opal will release the same motor under a different name on the continent.

The original Viva was produced at the Ellesmere Port plant in 1963 on the River Mersey and although it never entered the UK consciousness on the same level as the Mini for example.

In other news, it seems to be a week for British motoring nostalgics, after WWII engineering group, Bristol Cars, on Monday announced that it will release a luxury GT hybrid car to celebrate the firm's 70th annniversary.
