Google’s Chromecast media streaming service has welcomed the newest addition to its content portfolio, Blinkbox, in a deal which will see the latest movies and TV shows made available via the plug-in dongle.

Launched in March this year the simple device retails for just £30 and plugs directly into the HDMI port of a television to relay media via the internet or relay content onto compatible mobile devices.

This can be controlled via a Blinkbox app enabled laptop or tablet to search for content, play or pause streams and adjust volume.

Adrian Letts, co-founder and managing director of blinkbox Movies and TV, said: “There’s now another really easy way to enjoy the latest movies and TV shows at home on the bigger screen.

“An ordinary TV with an HDMI port can be transformed into an internet connected device, which is another great step towards getting the best entertainment into as many homes as possible.”

Blinkbox is currently available on games consoles, iPad and Android tablets, Smart TVs, Blu-ray players, set top boxes and PCs/Macs.
