Luxury retailer Fortnum & Mason is set to open a new standalone airport store and bar in Heathrow’s Terminal 5 this October.

It is the latest move into travel retail from the store after it opened its first new store in more than 300 years at St Pancras International Station in November last year.

“Heathrow is the UK’s hub airport and the first impression of the country for more than 35 million passengers a year. At Fortnum’s we have three centuries experience of serving customers travelling the globe, so it’s fitting we should now serve passengers flying to some of the world’s most glamorous locations,” said chief executive, Ewan Venters.

The 1,000 square foot store will carry an edit of products from Fortnum’s flagship Piccadilly store, with a strong focus on food gifting including its hampers, as well as a range of its most popular teas and preserves.

In December this year, the brand will open a restaurant/bar in the terminal.

Last year, up to July 2013, the retailer posted sales of £65m, up 10 per cent on 2012, and profit before tax of £1.8m, a five-fold increase on the previous year.
