L’Oréal UK & Ireland has appointed former marketing and innovation director for Diageo in Vietnam, Hugh Pile, to the newly created role of chief marketing officer, amid a "regroup" at the company.

In the role Pile will support L’Oreal’s growth strategy by creating a "centre of excellence and inspiration for transversal learning", generating consumer insight and digital transformation as well as accelerating business and media efficiencies and innovation.

He will report into country managing director Michel Brousset who commented: “Hugh’s expertise will be critical in driving forward several key initiatives, helping us to fulfil our mission to make consumers aware of products designed to meet their needs, and to be one step ahead of trends, creating the beauty products of tomorrow.”

The creation of the new CMO role also sees L’Oréal UK’s consumer and market insight, consumer affairs, media management and social listening teams regrouped alongside Pile, who will also collaborate closely with brand digital and marketing teams.
