American actress, singer and model Kate Bosworth has launched a new fashion app which allows smartphone users to identify clothing by snapping a picture of the garments.

Style Thief also runs through various e-commerce websites where the clothes may be purchased in a process modelled on the popular music sourcing app Shazam.

Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily Bosworth said: “Everyone has fashion envy. Everyone can relate to that feeling of looking at an editorial, for example—or a friend, or the runway, for that matter—wanting to steal something exactly as you’re seeing it, or something similar.

“Our intention is to be a tool for consumers to find something and ultimately purchase. It’s as easy as that.”

A beta version of the app has been in operation since November and will launch within select European countries, including the UK and Germany, within the next 60 days. Initially available on iPhone only.

Style Thief has partnered with over 300 retailers; including Swell, Saks Fifth Avenue, Forever 21 and Moda Operandi.
