The BBC will send 300 staff and freelancers to the Glastonbury Festival later this month – more than it is dispatching to cover the World Cup finals in Brazil.

The 300 assigned for a weekend of coverage at Glastonbury compares with 272 bound for the month-long football tournament in Brazil.

BBC's head of music, Bob Shennan, said that the corporation was "sending the same number of people as last year" to the music festival and "every member of staff onsite has a clear and accountable role".

A team of 17 presenters, including Jo Whiley, Mark Radcliffe and Fearne Cotton, have been chosen to front the Glastonbury programming during the last weekend in June.

The BBC will broadcast 30 hours of TV coverage from Glastonbury and over 50 hours of music on its radio channels. There will be further coverage on the iPlayer and digital platforms.
