The Get Safe Online website is now making strides towards coming back online following an 18 hour outage, which the company has said is down to “unprecedented demand”.

The website, which is backed by the UK government, law enforcement and private sector partners, went down following warnings on Channel 4 over the Gameover Zeus malware.

Tony Neate, CEO of Get Safe Online, told The Drum: “Although we took advance action to increase our website capacity before the announcement was made, there has been an unprecedented demand for the information.

“It’s really encouraging that people are taking their online safety seriously and we are sorry that the advice hasn’t been accessible via the website. We’re working really hard fix this as quickly as possible but, in the meantime, the advice can be accessed via our Facebook and Google+ pages as well as on CERT.gov.uk.”

The company said that it had quadruped capacity to the site before the announcement was made and is frustrated that the site went down.

At the time of writing this article, the homepage is working, but all the other pages of the website remain down.
