Facebook-owned virtual reality headset Oculus Rift may not even be available yet but that hasn’t stopped innovative hackers from exploiting the technologies potential in ever more innovative ways, with an AR drone mash-up being a case in point.

Posted on YouTube a three minute clip shows off a group of enthusiasts taking their remote control copter for a spin in the local park, nothing too unusual about that you might think but this particular gizmo has been hooked up to an Oculus Rift to give the wearer a front row seat on board the toy aircraft.

From the safety of a park bench pilots can command the AS Drone via simple head motion whilst wearing the open source device, which will ultimately contribute to the creation of a ‘drone swarm’ project where several AR Drones are commanded within one network.

In a disclaimer the gadgets creator Diego Araos said: “This is just a weekend project, missed testing and code quality might not be the best, therefore I'm not responsible for any damages that this project can cause due to misusage or inexperience.”
