Met Police take to Twitter to highlight scale of London’s knife problem

The Met Police have highlighted the true scale of London’s gang knife problem after brandishing a 15 inch blade seized during an operation on a Southwark estate.Police constable Osborne posed for a snap taken by his colleague, Sergeant David Hunter, displaying the seized weapon on his Twitter feed at half past eight on Saturday night. Hunter said: “Just seized this knife, maybe saved another life? Unfortunately didn’t catch the youth carrying it #se1 #southwark.’The alarming find was made after police descended on a tower block stairwell in Elephant & Castle following reports of youths smoking cannabis.Upon hitting the net the tweet drew a range of worried responses from some and others wondering where Mick Dundee had gone.

Nobody was apprehended at the scene but a tweet from the early hours of this morning suggested that a male had been arrested in connection with the incident.Many of Britain's police forces are now taking the fight against crime online to win over public support
