South Korean consumer goods giant Samsung has announced plans to integrate voice control across its range of household goods; covering devices ranging from washing machines to TV’s and lighting.

Marketed under the Samsung Smart Home brand the scheme will be rolled out over the next six months and will also see built-in cameras integrated with each device to allow homeowners to keep an eye on their homes wherever they may be.

More commonly found on smartphones the technology has come of age in recent years, giving the electronics group the confidence to broaden its usage to other everyday machines.

It will entail connecting all gadgets and appliances to a cloud based server from where they can all be controlled remotely.

Announcing the plans at the Consumer Electronics Show a spokesperson said that TV’s would form the bridgehead for the new tech, saying: “By saying ‘goodnight’ to their TV remote control, the TV will be turned off and lights dimmed.”
