Technology dominates Christmas wish lists this year, with iPhones, PlayStation 4, Xbox and iPads topping the list of most discussed wants, research from We are Social has found.

We Are Social examined Twitter conversation in the UK around the most popular toys and gadgets, from 1 October to 5 December 2013, to identify the most desired items on social media in the run up to Christmas.

The only non-gadget related items to make it into the top ten are Lego (600 mentions) and the Furby (200 mentions).

Apple ruled the list, with the iPhone (5,600 mentions), iPad (2,100) and Macbook (540).

Ed Kitchingman, senior analyst at We Are Social, said: “It’s no surprise that gadgets will be dominating Christmas gift lists this year, and according to social media, Apple has the edge on its competitors.

"The festive season is the holy grail for many product marketers, who will be hoping they’ve done enough throughout the year to make sure they get that all-important spot on the Christmas list. Still, in the age of high tech gadgets, it’s great to see Lego in there still holding its own. Some things never go out of fashion.”

PlayStation just beat Xbox on the list, with 3,180 mentions compared to 2,800.
