STV agreed a new pay deal with the unions, based on salary levels, which will see the lowest paid receive at least a five per cent increase, with the average rise being of three per cent.

The NUJ has said that it welcomes the settlement and the increases in pay for its members and staff.

Michelle Stanistreet, NUJ general secretary, said: "The pay deal at STV is good news with a better and fairer pay deal for journalists. Once again we have shown it pays off to be a member of the NUJ. Unions work hard to deliver results for working people and we would like to see other media employers tackling unjustifiable, unfair and low pay."

The aim of STV’s structured pay deal increase is to maintain progress over the next three years and re-balance salary levels.
