Credit card provider Visa has announced the launch of its new V.me platform in the UK today, an online payment system designed to simplify transactions between consumers and retailers.

The service enables subscribers to input all their personal details and card information just once before issuing a username and password which enable purchases amongst thousands of retailers who have already signed up to the service.

A form of digital wallet it can be accessed through any web enabled device and accepts cards from all major issuers.

Visa assert that the new service will increase consumer confidence in making purchases online and reduce the number of abandoned transactions arising from customers giving up with layers of passwords and input screens.

Amongst 1,400 online retailers signed up to the scheme are Universal Music in the UK and Allopneus, Aquarelle, Brandalley, Leclerc Drive, Made.com and Pecheur.com from France.

Steve Perry, chief commercial officer at Visa Europe, said: “V.me by Visa gives merchants and issuers an acceptance mark that will work across Europe. Mobile phones, tablets and the use of digital payments have changed the nature of commerce: consumers want to be able to buy from the merchant of their choice via any device without sharing their card details.”
