Network Ten has announced that it has partnered up with Twitter in an exclusive deal to break news and show video clips on the social network.

The deal will harness the rise of second-screening

The deal facilitates Network Ten advertising via Twitter, and represents the first such partnership in Australia.

"Our strategy is about pushing and pulling; pushing content out across various platforms and then pulling people in," Ten CEO Rebekah Horne said.

“By showing short-form content clips around particular events we can engage audiences on different platforms."

Network chief sales officer Louise Barrette said: “Our advertisers will be perfectly positioned to reach engaged consumers while our audiences receive exciting content that enhances their television experience.”

Ten has secured the broadcast rights for the forthcoming Sochi Winter Games and is expected to use Twitter to showcase highlights and utilise promoted tweets.
