Mobile uploads overtake downloads for the first time thanks to events likes Glastonbury and Wimbledon
Mobile data uploads have overtaken downloads for the first time, according to Olaf Swantee, the chief executive of EE.
Speaking at the Telegraph's Festival of Business, Swantee said that events like Glastonbury, the London Marathon and Wimbledon, coupled with the increasing popularity of social media has driven the surge in photograph and video uploads.
More specifically, he claimed Andy Murray's win at Wimbledon had caused a 20 per cent increase in mobile use.
He added the demand for faster network speeds, like 4G, was ever growing and that EE was working to improve network coverage across the country in a bid to rectify the accepted industry standard of one dropped call in every 100, which he said was “not good enough.”
