The average mum spends three times longer on Facebook mobile during the festive period than any other time of the year, the social media platform has discovered.

With Warc suggesting that mums are the ones that purchase 84 per cent of Christmas gifts, and Facebook reporting that 48 per cent of mums do their shopping in October and November, brands must act now.

Facebook has suggested that 2013 is going to be another ‘mobile Christmas’, with Nicola Mendelsohn VP of Facebook EMEA, adding: “Mums are constantly on the move at Christmas, messaging friends and family, sharing plans and looking to perfect gift ideas to make sure the big day is a success.

“The convenience of Facebook on mobile means that whether at home on the sofa or rushing around the shops, Mums can connect and keep in touch with the latest from their friends and family.”

The company also reported that 12 per cent of people on Facebook in the UK say they have purchased a gift after seeing it in their newsfeed.

Facebook has also announced that it is launching its SMB content hub to support small businesses and help them promote engaging content across the platform ahead of Christmas.
