Asda is today launching its Halloween campaign in earnest with in-store activity including an augmented reality treasure hunt and funfair-style 'grabber' machines distributing 'spooky eyeballs'.

Powered by Zappar's augmented reality technology, the Horrible Halloween Hunt will see a 3D cast of creepy characters spring to life from point-of-sale around Asda stores for those who download the retailer's free app.

A shopkeeper dubbed Sir Spook will challenge players to 'zap' all the items on his shopping list in order to win a prize.

Also from today, the Asda and Britvic-branded grabber machines will be rolled out across 45 stores across the country. Each machine gives players three attempts to pick up spooky eyeballs to win one of five prizes including £20 in-store vouchers.

Other activity includes pumpkin carving demonstrations, Asda cafe parties and a 'draw a spooky character' competition, while staff will hand out seasonal treats.

The campaign has been devised with Asda's creative marketing agency Momentum UK.

Steph Hughes, head of events marketing at Asda, said: “We are always looking for new ways to create a fun and interactive environment to entertain kids and provide a welcome breather for parents shopping in our stores.

"Halloween provides such a great opportunity for us to do this and we are confident that the ideas we have worked on with Momentum will be a huge success in driving engagement and cultivating a positive shopper experience.”
