Social networking site Path has been forced to lay off 13 employees, one in five of its total workforce, after a disappointing roll out of its new subscription model.

A Path spokesperson insisted however that no engineers were included in the redundancies and that it remained committed to developing Path 4.0.

Reports suggest that the site remains on the hunt for a lead investor to fund the social app, which has grown to a community of 20m but struggled to make money.

Just last month Path introduced a premium subscription model to address this, charging $1.99 a month on Android and $4.99 for three months on iOS with annual subscriptions for both available for $14.99.

Members who took advantage of these packages were offered benefits such as new stickers and photo filters.

It hasn’t all been plain sailing for the service though with complaints emerging of spam and robocall hijacks.
