Julia Gillard’s Twitter profile pic to hang at Australian Parliament

The photograph that former Australian PM uses as her Twitter account profile picture is set to hang in the Australian Parliament at Canberra.

The picture was taken whilst Julia Gillard was speaking to a 12 year old girl with Down syndrome as the state of Victoria signed up to a national disability insurance scheme.

The photograph has been obtained by the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House.

Museum director Daryl Karp said the portrait “is special because it's not your traditional formal portrait.''

The image is familiar to Twitter users as the avatar of the @JuliaGillard account.

The picture will hang in the Prime Ministers of Australia gallery.
