UK top country in Western Europe for ad spend per person, while Australia tops worldwide

The UK is the second country in the world and the top country in Western Europe for ad spend per person, research from eMarketer's latest Global Media Intelligence Report has found.

The research, carried out in collaboration with Starcom MediaVest Group, estimates ad spend in the UK at $540 per person this year, while Australia, which is the top country for ad spend, is at $582 per person.

It was found that Western Europe as a whole is one of the most mature ad markets in the world, accounting for 21.3 per cent of total media ad spending, 24.1 per cent of digital ad spending and 22.7 per cent of mobile internet ad spending worldwide this year.

The research predicts that total ad spend for Western Europe will hit $110.21bn this year, down from $116.54bn in 2008; with digital ad spend to account for $28.39bn of this.

However, despite its advanced ad spend, the UK ranks seventh in terms of digital ad spend per internet user, at $118 per head, with Norway, the US and Australia taking the top spots.
