Twitter has announced a new recommendations feature, which will send recommendations when multiple people in your network follow the same user or favourite or retweet the same tweet.

Based on experimental account @MegicRecs, the algorithm has been tweaked so that users are sent ‘only the most relevant updates’, according to Venu Satuluri , senior software engineer for search and relevance at Twitter.

Satuluri added: “After getting great feedback, we’re bringing this functionality to more users. As with any notification, you can change your settings at any time; you can turn these notifications off or on with the “Recommendations” toggle in your notifications settings.”

Twitter for Android and iPhone users will receive recommendations via a push notification.

This comes as Twitter announces that it plans to double staff in its Dublin office to 200 by the end of 2014, including roles in marketing, engineering and user services.
