A group of hackers have voiced concern over an innovative fingerprint scanner embedded in Apple’s iPhone 5S, claiming that it can be fooled by a simple photograph of the owners finger.

Chaos Computer Club, a German hacking group, claims its members have circumvented the TouchID fingerprint scanner by utilising a latex ‘fake finger’ and affixing an image lifted from a glass surface imprint.

To demonstrate the validity of their claims the group has posted a YouTube video of their feat, claiming to show one of their members breaking into one of the £709 gadgets.

Apple’s Philip Schiller said that TouchID provides a '’simple and secure way to unlock your phone with just a touch of your finger’’ but has not commented on the latest claims.
