The Water Cooler Group, a media communications company launched to oversee Media Storm and other smaller agencies, has officially opened its doors under the leadership of Antony Young, former CEO of Mindshare North America.

From offices in New York, Los Angeles and Connecticut, the group is aiming to offer an "alternative branding and communications solution" for its clients through its subsidiary shops; Maude (creative), Hip Genius (social) and Bolt (interactive TV).

Young explained: "Water Cooler Group brings a compelling proposition where brands can engage creative, social, technology and media in a fluid and less formulaic way that the large global holding company model can't replicate.”

He continued: "With media shifting at an unprecedented pace, brands need to keep up and find better ways of leveraging media. The potential for a company like Water Cooler Group in this environment is very exciting."

Co-founder and managing partner of WCG, Craig Woerz, previously served at AOL Time Warner and founded Media Storm. He said: "Through our heritage with entertainment and media properties, the Group is uniquely qualified to unlock and harness the power of media brands for all brands in order to make budgets go further, campaigns more impactful, results more significant and brands a deeper part of popular culture."

Benson Hausman has also joined the agency as executive director of marketing and development while Chas Howell has been named managing director of strategy and ideation.
