Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is meeting with US President Barack Obama’s “digital attack dog'' to design a social media campaign to win the forthcoming election.

Barack Obama is famed for his use of social media

Tom McMahon, the former executive director of the Democratic National Committee during President Obama's 2012 election campaign, will be joined by Joon Kim of the consulting firm New Partners, and Matthew McGregor, all key players in Obama‘s re-election, which leveraged social networks extensively.

McMahon is described as the “principal architect of the ground-breaking "Fifty State Strategy" that transformed the Democratic Party“, and has been utilising social media at grassroots level since working as Deputy National Campaign Manager for Howard Dean’s presidential, remarkable for its exploitation of online communities bid.

The election is expected to be held in early September, with the date due to be announced imminently.

Kevin Rudd (@KRuddMP) already has almost ten times more Twitter followers, at almost 1.3 million, than opposition coalition leader Tony Abbot (@TonyAbbottMHR) who has a little over 146,000.
