Dave Birss on why crap work wins awards when creative genius loses out

July 15, 2013 | 3 min read

With the hectic marketing awards season taking a brief vacation for the summer, MiNetwork has managed to convince one of the UK’s best known creatives and one of the busiest creative judges in the UK – Dave Birss – to share his unique insights into why some great creative works fails to win awards when other dross scoops Pencils, Lions, Chips and much more.

In this special webinar, hosted by MiNetwork - the organisation for growing agencies - Dave Birss will share his insights into how creative juries work, the interesting dynamics that often develop during judging sessions and, perhaps most importantly, what trophy-hungry creatives and agencies can do to ensure that the work they enter into awards schemes stand the best chance of being noticed and ultimately being awarded.

In recent months Dave - the former creative Director of POKE London and head of digital at OgilvyOne - has sat on the biggest and most respected creative juries in the UK (we can’t mention it by name here) and he has also recently sat on juries for the Cannes Lions, the Kinsale Sharks and the internationally renowned Chip Shop Awards.

The 60-minute webinar takes place on Tuesday 30th July at 3pm and during the webinar Dave will look at some of this year’s biggest award winning work and give his opinions on why they won so big and how next year your work could be doing the exactly same.

Speaking of the webinar, Richard Draycott, managing director of MiNetwork, said: “Dave has sat on judging panels for most of the highest respected awards schemes around and our webinar promises to give an interesting insider’s perspective on how panels work and what judges ultimately look for in creative work. Dave will also be taking questions from attendees, so if he recently sat on a judging panel that failed to give you an award, now would be the time to ask him what the hell he was thinking. Dave is a great speaker and no doubt will share some genuine pearls of wisdom during the webinar.”

The webinar package, priced at £45 + VAT, includes:

- The 60-minute webinar (including Q&A session)

- Access to the recorded webinar to view afterwards

- Dave’s Top Tips on Winning Awards Cribsheet

MiNetwork members can attend the webinar for FREE as part of their membership package. Simply contact Richard Draycott for the link.
