Sydney production company The Feds has been commissioned by MTV to create the pilot for the channel’s new structured reality show.

The Feds is the first Australian production company MTV has used

It is the first time an Australian content producer has been commissioned.

The programme is set to run for ten episodes if picked up from the pilot, and explores the travails of young people seeking to join a social clique.

The show, The New Crowd, features an 18-year-old Sydney girl hoping to join the Sydney Roller Derby League and a budding magician trying to join Sydney’s professional magic circuit.

“Discovering the lives of these young people who are looking to join a counter culture has been an eye-opening experience,” said director Josh Logue.

“As we watch their journey unfold, we captured their excitement, fears and trepidations, giving audiences a fly-on-the-wall peek inside the world of intriguing youth sub cultures.

“Making a documentary for an international audience meant that we had to choose stories that would resonate well with a global audience.

“To find a sense of belonging in the world is a universal human ambition so we believe these stories will speak to young people from all different kinds of cultural backgrounds and walks of life.”
