Andy Murray’s long awaited Wimbledon victory has opened up a rich vein of headline and front page splash material for Britain’s newspapers, with all electing to devote their front pages to the tennis champ from Dunblane.

As the first British man to win the title for a full 77 years Murray’s victory was noted with a one-word headline in the i which read simply ‘champion’, together with a pic of the man himself holding his golden trophy aloft.

A similar theme was to permeate the rest of the press with the Daily Mirror plumping for ‘History in his hands’; The Telegraph opting to go with ‘After 77 years the wait is over’and the Daily Mail suggesting future honours for the man from Dunblane with ‘Now it’ll be arise Sir Andy!’.

It was the guardian which was most succinct in its reporting howevere, choosing to forego a heading entirely to feature Murray kissing his trophy.
