Domino’s Pizza has posted a recession busting trading update for the 13 weeks to 30 June, showing particularly strong online sales now accounting for 63.3 per cent of delivered UK sales in the first half of the year, compared to just 52.4 per cent last year.
What is more Domino’s expect this figure to rise further as it develops its own in-house web and digital marketing expertise together with a revamped website in the second half.
Overall quarter one sales rose 11.7 per cent to hit £147.6m, versus £132.2m a year earlier, boosted by an ongoing expansion drive that has seen 15 new outlets open over the first half.
Like-for-like sales were up by a similar amount, running at 6.1% (2012: 8.1%) for the quarter, and 6.4% (2012: 5.7%) for the first half.
Lance Batchelor, chief executive officer, commented: "I am very pleased with the overall results for the first half - particularly with regards to the UK and Ireland like-for-like sales. Our system leads the leisure sector and, with the majority of our business coming via web and mobile platforms, we are now truly an online retailer.”
