The digital sports reporting teams from News Limited’s metropolitan newspaper network are to merged with foxsports.com.au

The merger will result in redundancies

The new sports team will be based in Sydney. The merger is set to result in redundancies, although no numbers have been confirmed.

"As part of this integration, we are continually looking at ways of working smarter and more efficiently. Unfortunately a number of roles at Fox Sports News are impacted,'' the company said.

"We are offering a voluntary redundancy program and hope to redeploy a number of those remaining within the broader News Limited business. Those leaving the business will be given their full entitlements and be offered support services.''

News group editorial director Campbell Reid said the merger would result in an increased application of video to the output.

"Our mastheads will control the sports editorial content they run on their web and mobile sites, but will have real depth and breadth of great journalism to choose,'' he said.

"Fox Sports' broadcast content will be supplemented through live crosses to our agenda setting journalists to cover and interpret breaking news.''
