A Twitter account opened by the former US Secretary of State and possible future Presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, has garnered 156,702 followers (at press time) in less than four hours.

"I'll take it from here..."

A single tweet has emanated from the account, thanking twitter tutors Adam Smith and Stacy Lambe.

“Thanks for the inspiration @ASmith83 & @Sllambe - I'll take it from here... #tweetsfromhillary,” she said. The account has been given a Twitter verification tick.

Clinton is following only 4 accounts; The Clinton Global Initiative, the Clinton Foundation and Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton’s verified accounts. US President Barack Obama welcomed Hillary Clinton to Twitter, saying: "Happy to welcome @HillaryClinton to Twitter. Stay tuned for the real #TweetsFromHillary."

At the time of writing, Clinton is not following the US President's twitter account.

Her twitter bio has gained support from many on Twitter, including former MP Louise Mensch, now based in New York, who tweeted: “How on it is @HillaryClinton? Not only best Twitter bio in years but checks "Texts from Hillary" Tumblr in her first tweet - AND avi photo!”

The bio reads: “Wife, mom, lawyer, women & kids advocate, FLOAR, FLOTUS, US Senator, SecState, author, dog owner, hair icon, pantsuit aficionado, glass ceiling cracker, TBD…”

Melanie Usher (@mjgal), Adelaide based newsreader said: "Welcome to Twitter @HillaryClinton Feel free to announce your Presidential bid anytime..."

Showbiz reporter Perez Hilton tweeted: "So happy! One of the most inspiring women on the planet, Hillary Clinton, is now on Twitter! Say hello to @HillaryClinton! P.S. #Hillary2016"
