Apple could be set to launch its streaming music service iRadio as soon as Monday, according to reports, after signing deals with a host of major record labels.

iRadio is coming - on Monday?

The tech giant now has deals in place with industry heavyweights Sony Music, Universal Music and Warner Music, paving the way for it to launch its own ad-backed streaming service to challenge Spotify.

The much-hyped iRadio is expected to let users stream music, for free but with ads, in line with the songs they enjoy in their own library.

Record labels have been cajoled into signing up in the hope that it will boost their own music downloads and they will receive a royalty share.

Eddy Cue, who heads up Apple's iTunes store, has been leading the negotiations with the record industry.
