Ingvar Kamprad, founder of the Swedish flat-pack furniture giant, has stepped down after 70 years, having begun the company when he was 17. We take a look back at some Ikea ads.
With the first print ad for Ikea being published in 1945, we take a look back at some slightly more recent campaigns that have run for the brand over the past 20 years: from 20 Keith Chegwins to battling garden gnomes, with a pit-stop at kitchen-dancing. How many do you remember?
1995: Keith Chegwin
Why get one big celeb when you can get 20 of Keith Chegwin for the same price? (warning: Chegwin may arrive flat-pack and will require some assembly)
1996: Chuck out your Chintz
This ad looked to persuade Brits to chuck out 'frilly and silly' furniture and instead go to Ikea.
2006: Have it cheaper
An Ikea sofa: cheaper (and possibly more comfortable) than a load of old tyres.
2006: The independent republic of your home
Created by a Spanish agency, this ad looked to promote a more international angle.
2007: Live unlimited/IKEA sale
Remember the 'it's time to live unlimited' series of adverts? What about the woman dancing along to the tune 'the Ikea sale, the Ikea saaaale?' It's annoyingly catchy.
2010: Cat-alogue
Ikea UK releases 100 house cats into its Wembley store to promote the launch of its catalogue.
2011: Poland
In 1961 Kaprad came to Poland...although the first store didn't open there until 1991.
2011: In the kitchen at parties
Getting onto more familiar territory now, this ad featured 'You'll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties' by Man Like Me and Jona Lewie.
2012: Playin' with my friends
Parents are toys. Nuff said.
2013: Garden gnomes
As released in April: Ikea takes on garden gnomes as it looks back to 1996 to again tell Brits that it is time for a change.
