An unidentified Taco Bell employee, who stuck his tongue out at management by licking a stack of unfilled shells, has been fired after a photograph of the incident was posted on the firm’s own Facebook page.

The gross antics subsequently went viral forcing Taco Bell into a rear-guard action in order to contain the fallout, which saw them assert that the tacos concerned were used in training and were in process of being thrown out.

The incident took place at a franchise restaurant in Ridgecrest, California, which is conducting an investigation into the incident.

A spokesperson for the fast food chain said: “'Our franchisee is responsible for the employment and conduct of his restaurant’s employees and he has informed us that he immediately suspended the employee shown in the photo and is in the process of terminating his employment.

“The employee who took the photo no longer works there.”
